The Australian Sports Commission have significantly funded athlete wellbeing programs across all sports which are managed out of the AIS. They promote a ‘happy human will make a successful athlete’ with evidence-based research that good athlete wellbeing management is linked to athlete performance success.

This Athlete Wellbeing & Performance Program is delivered in group workshops and individual sessions with a very clear focus on the athlete’s goal. The Career Confidence framework works on a holistic approach to create a positive training environment where the support and suggested initiatives are established to help the athletes, the parents and the coaches. Career Confidence can also work in consultation with the high performance management team of a sporting program. Providing a strategic framework and resources for a proactive cultural shift to sustain good athlete wellbeing practices.

Athletes need help as their personal time becomes more restricted and their sporting achievements become more successful. When an athlete starts progressing up the Elite Athlete Sport Pathway they start experiencing many changes as they transition from being a hobby sport to a representative sport. Majority of Australian representative athletes utilise athlete wellbeing practitioners.

 

The education provided in this Program addresses the challenges faced by an athlete. When the athlete's sport intensity increases (increase in training load, increase in the significance of the next competition) the need for additional athlete support should be matched with the same intensity. The program provides self-reflective learning exercises and informative education activities to develop awareness and capabilities to attain : Good Wellbeing Management (self, finances, hobbies, family/friends, career ); Elite Athlete characteristics & behaviours; Resilience - mindfulness, gratitude and empathy; and a Positive Mindset. The focus is build athlete's own capabilities to manage themeselves, their responsibilities and their sporting goals. Making the right decisions at the right time.

The best approach to athlete wellbeing is consistency, regularity & trusted relationship and empowerment by the Athlete Wellbeing Practitioner. The Program can be run as a group workshop or individual sessions.
